#39 Song Sparrow

Another of the early returning “littlebrown jobs”, the Song Sparrows have now come back for summer and are doing their pair-bonding thing and territorial singing all over the area and in our gardens. Thier song is pleasing for a while but highly repetitious … the “melodia” part of their species name is less than accurater IMHO.

This bird is a male – he was singing from a high perch, as they do, telling other males to go and find their own territories. They like shrubby edge habitat so gardens are perfect if they have the right mix of plants.
